My mind starts racing

I am up to my eyeballs in Lamaze reading and that's ok with me. With the exception of one tiny section of reading (Alternative Therapies), I am still enjoying every second of this learning process. I continue to struggle to find the time to accomplish the reading I plan in a day, but am also struggling with keeping my focus.

I find myself wanting to put all of the information into practice and jump to thinking about how I can do that before I have gained a sufficient base of knowledge. When I find my self in this situation, it is helpful to get some things out here and then move on.

I am looking for all women of childbearing age to help me out. Experienced moms, new moms, pregnant moms, those of you wanting to someday have children can all help. In our seminars, we are encouraged to practice out of a hospital. I get it. It makes sense to me. (If you want to know more about the reasons, I will post them later, but I will be happy to share before then. Just let me know.) The major hurdle is how to get pregnant women to attend classes with me outside of the hospital rather than automatically signing up for hospital classes. It is appropriate to say that should the opportunity present itself, I would teach in a hospital. If the situation were ideal, I would run classes elsewhere. I am open to running group classes or private classes with one or two couples.

Here are my questions to you. Please message me with any ideas or suggestions.

1. Would you take a childbirth class out of the hospital?
2. If so, where would you be comfortable taking that class?
3. Would you be comfortable in someone else's home?
4. Would you want a childbirth educator to provide private lessons in your home?
5. Where would you look for information regarding childbirth classes?
6. What factors would contribute to your decision?
7. Would you be interested in a preconception class?
8. Would you be interested in attending some classes in each trimester as well as a "reunion?"

3 years ago, I took a hospital-based childbirth education class from a Lamaze instructor. It wasn't particularly useful (maybe that's because I missed the medication class and the cesarean class) and I know I'm not alone in that sentiment. That being said, there are things I know now having done some work with Lamaze that I wish I had been told in my classes. I don't want to take the hospital classes and teach them elsewhere. I want to provide women with accurate, evidence based information to help them make the best choice for their pregnancy, birth and postpartum experiences.

If you have any suggestions, please email me at ljbeauchemin@hotmail.com or send a message on Facebook.

Thank you!
